In spite of Hurricane Harvey, the German tradition of Oktoberfest is STILL coming to Kingwood! Holy Comforter Lutheran Church (HCLC), proud host & sponsor of The Kingwood Oktoberfest (TKO) is digging deep to provide Kingwood and surrounding communities with some much-needed R&R this October.
Although the Kingwood community was hit hard and many of the volunteers from Holy Comforter were personally impacted by Hurricane Harvey, the church has decided to move forward with the event, and exemplify “Kingwood Strong” by making it a benefit for the victims of the recent hurricane that rocked their community to it’s core.
The second annual event, which attracted more than 1,200 people last year, will take place on October 21, 2017 from Noon to 5 pm at Holy Comforter Lutheran Church, 1901 Woodland Hills Drive in Kingwood. Proceeds from this event will help causes both in Kingwood and around the world, with the majority now going toward Hurricane Harvey relief in Kingwood and the surrounding communities.
The Kingwood Oktoberfest will once again feature German cuisine, polka music, beer, wine, and much more. The Kingwood Oktoberfest has something for everyone, with a Fair Trade Sale, and games and activities for all ages.
This year’s Oktoberfest will honor the 500th anniversary of the Reformation, which is when German priest Martin Luther nailed his Ninety-Five Theses on the door of the All Saints’ Church in Wittenberg, Germany.
The Kingwood Oktoberfest will once again feature the music of The Texas Sound Check Band. Formerly the City Polka Boys, The Texas Sound Check Band has been a staple in the Texas Polka community for more than four decades.
Back Pew Brewing Company beer will once again be served at Oktoberfest. For those that prefer wine, The Kingwood Oktoberfest will also feature wine from Haak Winery. Based in Santa Fe, Texas, Haak Winery is dedicated to “creating wines of distinction that accompany the memories of all who taste their wines.”
Homemade, German food at this year’s event will include sausage, sauerkraut and potato salad unique to German cuisine. Volunteers from Holy Comforter Lutheran Church and the Holy Smokers will put their spin on Oktoberfest fare.
The Kingwood Oktoberfest will once again feature booths and demonstrations for the whole family to enjoy. There is plenty to do for the kids with bounce houses, games and more. For those that want to shop, the Oktoberfest Gift Shop and Fair Trade Market will be open during the entire festival.
HCLC is pleased to announce that Commercial State Bank, Kingwood Funeral Home and Sullivan’s Advanced paint and Body will once again be supporting the Kingwood Oktoberfest. They are joined this year by Apple Moving, Molly’s Pub, Children’s Area Sponsor: Elton Fritz Property Group and Event Sponsor: Randall Reed’s Planet Ford. Kingwood signs, Sysco Foods, The Houston Chronicle, The (Kingwood) Tribune, Great Harvest Bread and many others are working with the TKO team to reduce hard costs to help the cause as well. All have joined forces to be Kingwood Strong and give back to the community in a meaningful way. More Sponsorships are underway and there are several levels available. If your organization would like to be a part of the Kingwood Oktoberfest, please contact Pastor Barb Bartling at pastorbarb@godeeperwithchrist.org.
Admission is $5 for adults and $1 dollar for children with meals sold for $12 dollars. There will also be hot dogs and pretzels sold two for $5, beer and wine for $5 and water and soda are $1. Advanced tickets on sale now at www.KwOktoberfest.org Commemorative mugs and t-shirts will also be available.
