Lutherans to mark 500th anniversary of the Reformation (NW Ohio Synod)

FINDLAY – The Northwestern Ohio Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) will open its churches throughout Northwest Ohio on two Saturdays this year to celebrate the 500th Anniversary Year of the Protestant Reformation that was initiated by Martin Luther in 1517.

The ELCA churches will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on July 29 and October 21 so that people can learn about the local connections to the major historical event. There will be opportunities to learn about everything from genealogy to beer brewing, Reformation art and music, stained glass windows, and how shipwrecked Lutherans ended up in Ohio. The events also will look at Lutheran-Catholic relations then and now.

The public is invited to go to nwos500.org and scroll to “NWOS Reformation 500 Crawl” for maps, listings, and more information on the events.
